At the termination of an aggregate extraction contract at Lackford Fen in Suffolk, the Suffolk Wildlife Trust took over this quarry site and developed it into a nature reserve for the wetland bird population. We were selected to design an interpretation and Visitor Centre for this new nature reserve, to provide visitor facilities including meeting and exhibition areas and a viewing gallery over the lake to the North. We created a very simple cost-effective building with a timber frame, and cladding in treated but unfinished timber. The roof is a resin-based profiled agricultural type panel system. Despite being a very cost effective building the Visitor Interpretation Centre has become an important centre for the Trust and has raised its profile in the area.
