The architects, that other architects go to

Planning Applications submitted to Council Planning Departments require careful and considered preparation if they are to be successful, whatever the size of scheme or building project.
Nurturing a building project from the conception of the design to the completed building, whether a new construction or a refurbishment, is a privilege we particularly enjoy as architects. All successful projects are the result of a cohesive team having confidence, determination and trust in each other, undertaking the (sometimes frustrating) journey together. Having a project reach the cover of the glossy magazines is an accolade to all that journey and faith. The cherry on the top.
Architecture is considered to be an art, a craft and a science among several more disciplines. But unlike many of these, the architect is rarely credited on or within the edifices they create. It seems that on the whole, it is only those who hold the purse strings on a building project and those that commission them, that are entitled to be recognised for posterity. Why is it that architects are so maligned when their creations are often so revered?

Earth construction is a straightforward, if time-consuming, technique requiring little in the way of specialist training, much of which can be gained on site. It allows a flexibility in design and detailing that is hard to manage in more contemporary materials.
The term eco house is widely used and misused. So what does it actually mean and how can you tell if a house is an eco house?
